NHS Leicester City were looking at developing a new website for the ‘Leicester City Clinical Commissioning Group’. This group is part of the future structure of the NHS and the city’s main commissioner of health services to help shape how the NHS operates in Leicester City. The site needed to look professional and individual whilst still retaining a trust associated with the established NHS brand.

Accessibility was a vital part within the new Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) website and included functionality that allowed the user to change text size and contrast screen colours. Door 22 were approached to focused on developing a website to coincide with the CCG’s new branding and add support and initial engagement opportunities through news updates and a who’s who page detailing who is heading up the group. The website design needed to be supported by a simple but scaleable CMS system for easy inhouse updates.

The London Lingual Orthodontic Clinic is one of the most highly regarded centres in the UK for orthodontic treatment and is a leader in its field of expertise, but its website did not reflect the re-branding it was undergoing. The clinic recently had a full refurbishment at its offices in London that began the re-branding process and Door 22 Creative was asked to continue that process by tackling the evolution of their website. Working together with Caroline Holland and Ethical SEO this was very rewarding and exciting project.

The website needed to reflect the new branding and their newly refurbished clinic in London. We achieved this by applying a clean and classic approach to the design style, where baroque elements were picked out from the clinic’s decor and used to subtle affect to create a backdrop to the website as well as providing interesting elements on which we developed the design.

Photography of the clinic’s interior and exterior was commissioned and was a valuable asset to the overall appearance of the website and provided a visually prescriptive introduction to each page.

Using each of these elements sparingly and creatively we created a website with a nice balance of clean lines, strong imagery and classic detailing that was simple to use and a pleasure to view.

The site has had a very positive response and is climbing the searchable ranking week by week.

In partnership with Facilitate Ltd, Door 22 Creative provided the concept, design work and animated moving image for the pharmaceutical conference held in Spain.

Door 22 was asked to provide the concept and visual stimuli to span across web, print and moving image. The concept that was produced combined a graphic representation of algorithms and illustrated the worldwide reach and appeal of the symposium. This provided us with elements that lent themselves to a strong graphic solution. Due to its strong graphic style, the design stood out from the other participants at the conference and spanned well across all media. This included an abstract booklet, invite, micro-website, web banners, signage, Powerpoint slides, activities schedule booklet and animation.

“It was a great success getting Door 22 Creative to create the opening video sequence for our meeting. Being the designers on the project they were really close to the concept and captured the spirit of the event in the animation. It created a really cohesive onsite experience.” Sian Andrews – Facilitate Ltd

The theme of November’s emailer is to introduce their gorgeous new Christmas Canapé selection consisting of a mouth-watering magical menu.

As their food is so beautiful we always have spectacular images to play with. We just have to make sure the images are the hero of the emailer and compliment them with design to let people indulge in what the AC could do for them.

We have just completed the Choose Better campaign for Leicester City NHS. A campaign aimed at winter pressures of the NHS and the correct use of the Accident and Emergency unit.

Leicester City, Leicestershire County and Rutland needed a hard hitting advertising campaign to address the misuse of their A&E. The campaign needed to educate the community that there are many other excellent services and professionals equipped to deal with less serious conditions.

The Emergency Department is for serious and life threatening conditions only and many patients can be treated elsewhere. The Choose Better campaign asks the community to play their part.

We designed the campaign to be a no-holds barred approach and the concept was to make people understand the role of the A&E and the real possible consequences of it’s misuse.

The Choose Better campaign was launched through posters, leaflets, local press advertising, web banner ads, twitter and a website.

Often when a company has a change or refresh of their branding the website is one of the first areas that gets the most attention, but often that attention is misplaced and can cause headaches and spiraling budget costs if not tackled correctly from the offset.

We get many enquiries from brands and companies wanting to refresh their website to make it firstly look more contemporary but also to increase business through it. These are obviously very important aspects to concentrate on, but what should be considered when going through this process? Here are a few things to consider.

Will the design engage with new customers in the correct way?

Attracting new business is often the reason for going through the refreshing process so a new website needs to express the desire to fulfill new customer requirements. This can be achieved by providing an easy way for customers to get in touch, provide interest around the brand, an innovative way to interact with your products or services and build a concise idea of who you are and what you’re offering.

Try not to alienate existing customers.

Whilst a company may be striving to innovate within its products and services and provide new and exciting possibilities to gain business, it mustn’t leave behind it’s current customer base. How can this be achieved? Try to keep as much of the feel of the previous website as possible; if you had a friendly feeling website before, then going for a hard edged “we mean business” style with a hard sell around every corner would not be the best way to go. Try to provide your existing customers a chance to re-engage with the new website by keeping areas that were working previously, but with an updated look.

How do I want users to interact and navigate the new website?

Your content is one of the most important (some say the most important) elements of your website and how users receive and consume that information is critical. Drawing up a sitemap early on is one of the best ways to make sure the new website does not spiral out of control and become a content organisational nightmare. A site map will help you configure the navigation for users and control the number of actions it takes to get to the relevant information; something that is key to keeping users on the website and making that all important enquiry.

Will the design or ‘look’ of the site really affect gaining new business and maintaining existing now I have all the other elements correct?

A website is more often than not the first port-of-call and direct experience with a brand most people will have, so like in any situation in business, first impressions count. Getting the right feel to a website is of paramount importance and must aesthetically represent your core brand values in one easy to digest electronic package. You sometimes have literally seconds to impress! If a business has just been through a re-branding/refresh then the website must reflect these changes religiously and with no compromise otherwise one of your most powerful marketing tools may end up diluting the entire brand.

Briefing. Sometimes, it can take a great deal of time to put a brief together, starting with research and feedback. Sometimes, it can take the form of a panicky rushed telephone call when you know that a deadline is looming. We love to talk about briefs.

We like talking to people who are both experienced in briefing and those who are not so well versed in the world of marketing and design and have simply been landed in at the deep end.

Experienced in commissioning design?

If you are experienced in briefing design you know that successful communication, whether it is a company or service re-brand, internal communication, a new advertising campaign, a website refresh or an annual report require three things:

• Ensure your staff are involved and informed
• Build effective and emotional engagement with your customers
• Increase support and confidence from your existing audience

If this is you then we really should be talking. We will take your structured and researched briefing document, summarise your goals and objectives and present you with a creative, resolved and well targeted design on-brief, on-budget and on-time.

Not experienced in commissioning design?

If you are not experienced in briefing design then we would love to help you write your brief. We start by asking a lot of questions. We need to find out about you and your business environment. Here are the kind of things we will be asking.

• Who is it you are targeting?
• What is it that you need to achieve?
• Are there any specific challenges that the message may face?
• Has any research been done in association with this?
• Do you have existing communications or an existing style?
• Do you need approval from your board members or stakeholders?
• What is your timescale and budget?

This is by no means everything but the more questions we ask the better. This helps us focus on your objective. We can summarise your goals and requirements for your communications and it allows us to deliver a design brief that will set the scene for a streamlined creative response and design service.

As an agency looking to the future of design and advertising, gaining inspiration for new projects can come from various digital sources, generally in the form of an innovative website or app or one of the better “30 Best of” blog posts that are all too common and an easy fix when lacking that little spark. True inspiration however often comes when we are given the opportunity to view and experience ideas and work that are not emitted from our shiny fruit flavoured computers but explained, discussed and showcased in “real time”.

As part of Brighton Digital Festival, the ‘Improving Reality’ Conference held on Friday 23rd September showcased some of the worlds most innovative and inspirational thinkers, their thoughts on Reality Hacking, Digital Cinema, Gaming – their concepts and live projects that are set to lead us into a brave new digital era.

With a conference that spans such a wide interpretation of how to ‘Improve Reality’, it was only fitting that the speakers were equal in diversity to highlight an “intentionally provocative” conference. The morning session speakers included innovators such as Julian Oliver (Select Parks and winner of Ars Electronica), Aral Balkan, José Luis de Vicente who all shared their ideas and projects on ‘Reality Hacking’. Matt Hanson former director of Onedotzero and the man behind ‘A Swarm of Angels’ project, Lizzie Gillet, Brightons own Matt Lucas of Blast Theory and Jamie King demonstrated their projects and ideas of new era in film and cinema in the ‘Beyond Cinema’ section of the conference. The ‘Gaming for Good’ part of the conference came as a playful alternative to finish proceedings with talks from gaming psychologist Tassos Stevens, Six to Start founder, Adrian Hon, Times Up Media Lab, and former Channel 4 Commissioning Editor for Education, Alice Taylor.

All of the talks were inspiring in their own right, but the two that stood out were Julian Olivers ‘Reality Hacking’ projects that for the most part used augmented reality to ‘hack’ corporate landscapes and subvert what he describes as a ‘top-down distribution’ of digital news and media. What was most inspirational was his anarchic approach and outcomes and what the implications of his ideas and inventions held for the future of advertising, art and digital media. Here are some links to his work that he focussed on in his talk for you to ponder and to become inspired.

Before going to the conference I pondered of the relevance to myself as a designer to the subject matter covered, as not all the talks were based in a digital medium. After attending however, I was surprised at how indirectly related and inspirational all of the talks were, despite several of them covered theatre, Barbie dolls and bittorrents to name but a few. If you are wondering if this is the right thing for you as a designer, programmer or director of an agency to go to, to gain inspiration then I would suggest you do not hesitate to sign up for next years conference as it’s a hotbed of inspiration no matter which area of the creative industries you hale from.
